I like to work from one, two or three good digital photographs so I can capture the details of your pet's unique features.
On the right you can see the photograph that guided the watercolour painting of my friend's dog, "Zip". As you can see, the idea is to capture the animal's essence rather than to create a copy of the photo. One good head-and-shoulder shot will usually provide plenty of information to work with, but if you have any doubts, send two or three.
